same location, but the spring from which we all drank.  On the far left side is another pipe that is turned upward.  Many native Saratogians and tourists alike visit this "smell hole" today  and inhale from it deeply to relieve sinus congestion.  Of course, none of us who knew of the properties of "the hole" could resist the temptation to encourage a deep whiff when we brought first-timers here.  The resulting reaction was always good for a chuckle.  You either hate or love the water.  High in salt content and full of tingly bubbles, it was far superior to the seltzer water and club sodas we had to settle for once we moved away from home.
